Guilt! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Poem by Ceri Fields

Guilt! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Rating: 5.0

Running through a flowered meadow with reckless abandon.
In your endless springtime of life.
Carefree and alive, filled with youth to envy.
But could you spare a thought to spread the wealth,
The riches of innocence and spirit,
With those young, yet weak and sickly?

Did you ever hear?
Children starving around the world?
The stupid commercial interrupting your favorite sitcom
Pleading petty change for the plight of the teary-eyed kids.
It's all a scam, isn't it?

Eating dirt, bark, worms:
The high life.
Murky green water, teeming with life not meant to drink.
Yum, delicious, wonderful.

If you only you could hear their heart wrenching cries.
Hungry, skeletal babies, waiting for a meal.
Hungry, skinny toddlers, downcast eyes glazed over in the afternoon heat.
Hungry, gaunt teens, HOPELESS written on their faces.
Wondering if someone would help,
At least while they can't help themselves.

Your words, your thoughts, your kind consideration
Helps to warm young hearts filled with sorrow.
Though tears shed are like rain,
Needed to grow and flourish,
...what if the rain never comes?

*just a little rant...
