Simply Waiting. Poem by Ceri Fields

Simply Waiting.

Have you ever felt a tug of longing?
Did you ever do anything to slake the thirst that desire wreak?
And yet, we sit back and receive life only,
Receive it's pleasures and complain all the while,
Never actively seeking those magical baubles of which we dream.
You say, I've waited for so long yet, that only a bit longer is no wait at all.

We angrily blame our procrastinating nature, our cowardice,
We want, but do nothing to pursue these things,
The allure of a mystery,
The tempt of an unopened box.
We beg the nightmares to find a new perch in a dark, distant corner of the mind,
But never do they listen.
Always will they haunt, until they see themselves fulfilled.

Or maybe, the crave isn't strong enough, the pull too distant.
As we convince ourselves of their unimportance, the thoughts fade,
Leaving only a feeling of regret and missed oppurtunities.
And so, we stay, simply waiting.
