Half Grin And Whiskers On My Chin Poem by Lucas Pate

Half Grin And Whiskers On My Chin

I'll continue to hide behind this half grin and the few whiskers on my chin
It's the look you said I pull off best
Another summer is drawing to and end
Days are growing shorter
Warm, humid nights are becoming cooler
But these days remain so damn hot
Another season is drawing to and end
Yet I'm no closer than at the beginning of spring
Life is throwing a mean curve ball
And I'm swinging for the fences
But I still haven't connected
They say the best is yet to come
But what if I were to say
The best has come and gone
And I'm the worst at moving along
What's the point of a summer fling
Three months and she's gone
Soon again left to my thoughts
And who am I kidding, she wouldn't be the same
The wheat has been harvested and the days grow shorter
Mornings are cold
And I have to wear my favorite band's sweater
Fall is the best season, maybe there is hope to come
And it always looked so much better on you in the cold weather
I'll continue to wear this half grin and keep these whiskers on my chin
Just in case you stop by so you can recognize
It's the look you said I pull off best
Me at my finest, at least in your eyes
This could just be wishful thinking
Please don't disperse like leaves in the autumn wind
