Halloween Night Poem by Ishmael Onserio

Halloween Night

The screeching and heavy stumbling outside,
Heavy boots wading through the rotting leaves stacked,
The scare of the dark engulfing the sky unfolds of the outside,
A scarecrow on the cross clothed in tatters,
Children enjoying of day-end in the breezing cold,
A sounding gong at each doorstep,
Calls for a trick or treat rolling in the dim lit doorsteps,
It is scaring as you open the door to heed the call,
Young in costumes of the day anticipating,
With baskets of treat fill at seeking,
The owl screams so loud with a warning,
The hyena amplifies the moaning at dusk,
The moonlight has turned grey and bloodied,
They say it is a night of adventure,
Pumpkin carvings and beliefs at display,
The old vampire looks at their best view now,
Mounting of bats on the walls and trees is evident,
The mourning of cats and dogs wailing can be heard,
Across the land with charming monotones.
Each time it has to come with a sigh,
Yet with anticipation in minds of many waiting,
It's Halloween night, the clocks are ticking,
It must pass with a bang this time of the year.
