Hard Life Poem by ojok phillips awany

Hard Life

Rating: 4.5

Life, you have become hard like mathematic
Yet, you were important to me like the rod use for cleaning the inside of a gun.
When I was young, I use to scheme you like the nicely smelling unripe mango
But now am thin like an ironed clothe
My head is noisy like the weaver birds
Even the earth is noisy like the sound of gun shots
My soul diminishes slowly like fire from oduku tree
Sometimes it’s better for a tommy girl,
It’s difficult to differentiate whether she is a girl or a boy
But for me, I am a big star
Yet, poverty has made my compound silent like that of a greedy person
Life, why do you take me badly like I have just stolen you?
Today you are different from what I use to see in you when I was young
