Harmless Lies Poem by Clinton MacDonald

Harmless Lies

You told me all your lies
And I believed them
I let them pile up one by one
Until they pushed me away
I still believed them
And pulled you back
Thinking it was what I wanted
You tore me apart
I couldn't help but leave
It was when we were through
And you were near again
That I realized how fake you are
I reached out again
Telling you I'd always be there
And when our lips touched
I knew how much of a fraud you were
You said you didn't like him
But it was only a matter of time
And you were with him
You were with him when you kissed me
I held back then
I couldn't go any further
It was all I could do to mask my pain
And hide my anger
I meant those words I said though
And will always be there for you
Anything bad happens
I want to be the first to know
And the first to help
My words are true
Unlike you, I say the truth
So now I leave you with me word
But not my heart
