He Fought, So Did She Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

He Fought, So Did She

Placing his palm
On her trembling cheek
He said
“Darling I will be away for now
To war to serve and protect
But for you
I will be back
Not as good as new
But good enough for you”

He fought against
Bullets and bombs
Loss of life and destruction
That slowly buried his insides
But he mustered himself
To continue to fight
To fight to live;
He thinks of his muse
All alone and at home
But he didn’t know
She fought a war on her own;
The distance and danger
Between her and her husband
Tore a hole in her
As she bled
Praying, hoping
and always waiting
For her true love
to finally come home
