He Is Here.....

He is here.
a poem by Godwin Egbe Jnr, Nigeria

HE IS HERE! By Godwin Egbe Jnr 23/4/2017 on the demise of my beloved Dad, Ven.R.F.Egbe.
(culled from 'The forest of Ihologbe' a collection of poems by Godwin Egbe Jnr)

THE LOSS
1. We met on a road we both know,
But at cross road he'd left me,
Where to go from there I didn't know!
The vacuum created in me
Is hard to regain till morrow,
For, Rare's his kind yet to be!
For vacuum will still remain, yes sorrow',
Right "farewell" he'd got from me.

2- The body tells the soul, stay
Soul responds, Damn you! am not clay
He journeys with precision
With zeal and a mission
A task done and dusted
And the body covered and casted.
Another soul set free, it's a wonder
We remain here to stare and wander
Speculate on our time and space
Why get lost staring at another's face

THE REMEDY
3- I can't pretend to be alright,
When I'm really "in a fix"!
Oh, how can there be other "right"
That I can ever see to "fix"!
Oh, Nature, can't you remedy my "plight"?
Come back, play your "Shackles" tricks!
Please, come back, that things be aright,
And joy will be at its peaks!

4- I know the body is just an instrument
Has replacements, sure like a garment
All we must drop, and take up the cloak
The indestructible, stronger than oak
The body cant keep the soul down
And the soul replaces the body like a gown.

5- You showed me the beauty of immortality
The uniformed see death as a fatality
Be it as it may, it's a price we all must pay
Because the garment must return to clay
Immortality justifies Karma
Just like karma justifies the Maker
Its wise to be careful with the hammer
That we use before we meet our Taker

SOLACE
6- Time is our own creation
Nothing happens by chance
Knowledge turns time to a recreation
Never trivialize the power of a glance
At the other side of disbelief
We are shown a single leaf
For a chance to roll
Never allowing the mind to droll

7- It was worthwhile meeting you
As you come again renewed
The debt meant for you
Having shed the cloak renewed
Wonderful souls don't come cheap
We all need that giant leap
We are in the land of the dying
Truth may seem like lying
Till we see again, Let your lot be
I hail you Hannibal d' Great…So mote it be.
