He Never Came Poem by Zachary Bush

He Never Came

She sent him a message
And said to drive slow,
It was late and she worried
For him coming through the snow.

He assured her
That he would be alright
No doubt in his mind
He'd see her tonight

But he made a mistake
When he turned to sharp
And he plunged his soul
Into eternity's dark.

She waited for him
But he never came
Not then, not ever
She went almost insane

The therapists and doctors
Could do nothing you see,
For a broken heart can't
Be fixed by a degree.

She languished there
All on her own
In a hell that came
From being alone

She grew old
And never married
Haunted by the eyes
Of the one she buried

Now nobody comes
To see how she fares
Her sadness is a plague
Spread by her tears

She died all alone
In her rocking chair.
With her spirit freed
She took to the air!

Then she realized
She had memories still
and in that moment
Her heart was thrilled

If she was alive
In this world of light
Then he was too
She left in full flight!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was at work talking to my girlfriend (now fiancee) , about how she would feel if I wrecked in the snowstorm that was happening on my way home from work. And thus this poem was born. Written that night before I came home. I sent it to her before I left. Needless to say she wasn't very happy with me.
