He Rises Early Poem by Michael Hunter

He Rises Early

Rating: 5.0

He rises early, but for what?
Stares himself down in the mirror -
Attempting to win control over himself.

He dutifully kisses his wife and hugs goodbye
and leaves the door to find his fortune, and sure -
He rises early, but for what?

He works the day through, trapped in the cycle,
no way out, and sure -
He rises early, but for what?

He clings to a hope that things will improve,
looking in vain for things that never happen, yes -
He rises early, but for what?

Home at the end of the day,
once again - through the loving motions - it is true,
He rises early, but for what?

He sits on the edge of the bed at night,
places his head in his hands - an asks,
I rise so early, but for what?

Nicely written! 'He Rises Early' to express gratitude for his blessings. Thankful to god to be able to 'rise' early for the purposes to do good deeds. And ask God to assist with the rest. I like this poem. Thank you, Michael.
