He Was Never A Man

He Was Never a Man
By Sandy Tawfiq

---

You were the sword, and in your eyes
I thought I'd find a place to hide—when fear would rise.

But now you've shattered, right before their gaze,
And left me prey to wolves, devoured in their craze.

A man? And how, when you were first to flee?
You betrayed me, not shielding me from what could be.

I waited for you like a sacred prayer,
A pulpit where loyalty would rise in air.

You said: "Find safety in my chest, " then drew
Your knives of lies, dressed in excuses untrue.

Your kin, a shame the world could see,
And still you clapped for wounds that bled from me.

Where is your honor? Where the vow you gave—
That love stands firm, when storms misbehave?

Were you sincere? Or was love just a shield
To hide your cowardice—the truth concealed?

I never sent my dreams to ride with knights,
But my heart was blind, drowned in false lights.

Was it my eyes that failed to see?
Or did the night veil truth from me?

You betrayed the light I held inside—
So I shall go, with no more lies to bide.

Stay in your shadow, cold and bare—
Where hollow words dissolve in air.
