He who plucks at strings of the Tanpura
Crosses the worldly ocean
He who sounds the Tala in his hands
Is joined by the angels
He who ties the belled anklet
Tramples on the chests of the daemons
He who sings
Visualizes the form of Hari
He who visualizes Vithala of Purandara
Reaches Vaikuntha

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Tanpura is the instrument that the Dasa poets carried with them. Another instrument they carried in their hands is the Tala. They danced on the streets, singing the praise of the Lord, wearing belled anklets in their feet. In this composition, Purandara Dasa is perhaps motivating others to take up the cause, tempting them by promising them Vaikuntha - the abode of Lord Vishnu!
