Head Starts And Heartaches Poem by Artemis Skye McNeil

Head Starts And Heartaches

"I missed you when
you were standing
right in front of me
but your mind -
was aloof in distant daydreams.
I missed your touch
when I reached out
to feel only emptiness
when you stopped
reaching back for me.
I missed you when you slowly disappeared-fading away from my
life excited for new destinations.
I missed you -
achingly
longingly
painfully
before you ever thought to miss me;
and now you've come back-
to tell me
what a mistake you made
leaving and
just how much
you miss me too -
But now I really don't know what to say;

You see,

I'm already over us.

Because, I had a
big head start
missing you.
