Emmanuel Osuji

Heartbeat - Poem by Emmanuel Osuji

I can feel the heartbeat of her pain
The abuse of her stepfather
Too much to bear
Looking for comfort
Dreaming, 'One day I'll be free'
Questioned by friends, ignoring the help
Beaten day and night
The mother, nowhere in sight
Begging and begging for him to stop
Her heart searching for love
Ounce by ounce the beat dies out
Tonight was the night
He came back for more
She was choked and choked
Breathing her last breath
She gave up hope
The pain she bears
She feels no more
The heartbeat of her pain...
Has gone to another soul
