Heavy Eyelids Poem by Quênia Lalita

Heavy Eyelids

my eyelids were as heavy
as elephants, as dinosaurs
I did not wish to open my window
the door would creak silly obscenities to me

my eyelids felt like
two gigantic hammers
hammering down elderly truths and lies
- I had a lifetime of young truths and lies ahead of me

impatient eyelids at 2 o'clock in the morning
conquests, counterparts
striking me upon the bunk bed, slurping pleas
a latin song pounding the empty vases of flowers

a candy smell impregnated the sordid heat
