Heritage Of Lies Poem by Opeyemi Dedayo

Heritage Of Lies

Reading the pages of time
I court no meaning
Than the well-written credos
On flagrant lies.

Year after year,
The truth, if ever heard, is etched
In marginal phases
By those whose songs never had choruses.

Without a chorus
Without the babelic support
Of free voices
The skylight of truth
Hardly peered into cordon of seasoned liars
Who nurture the land with darts of prickly ploy.

With their livid luxury
Through the imprecise policies,
Through the endless citation of surreal statistics.
We are only solaced in our fickle fury,
In affirmable right that time will position
Their truth under questioning light.

Reign after reign
Lies after lies...

Like innocent wards at moolight play,
We have gulped enough morsels of custom lies,
Enough of moonshine riddles
That fiddled the state
On a wayward path.
