Hero's Journey -Part I- Poem by Nechi Robert

Hero's Journey -Part I-

Rating: 5.0

There he stood on an empty cliff,
His legs were shaking, his heart was stiff.
Unsure of himself, unsure of what he is
Is he a man, what's truly his?

He picked up his sword and kissed goodbye,
Smashing the silence with a battlecry.
Do not weep my child, do not despair,
The path of the man you must prepare.

He picked up his shield, not glancing back,
For this is the time for him to now pack.
Pack all his feelings, pack all his life,
Find what's causing his miserable strife.

Near the horizon the first challenge stood,
The great foe which he kill should.
The monster was big, his arms were like trees!
And our hero fell on his knees...

He looked up in the sky and asked: 'Why me? '
The sky did not answer, the world did not agree.
The denial was great, the womb was too warm,
He didn't even have the strength the sword to grip firm.

He shut off his brain, his mind was empty!
His veins bulged out, the hands were sweaty...
His feet were moving, controlled by someone else,
He must regain control of himself!

But it was not control that he sought,
Everything he was, he'd always been taught,
How could he defeat the foe ahead,
If everything he was is almost dead?

Step by step, beat by beat,
Our hero stepped forward his challenge to meet.
Detaching himself from the old world - home,
Feelings washed away like sea washes foam.

There it was, the monster of his fate,
Bigger than he ever was, his attitude was straight.
'What is it you seek, puny little gnome?
Take your body back and rest it at home'.

'There is not place for you on the path ahead,
The world is for the strong, go back or drop dead! '
Bursting out with anger, expressing his fury,
The hero did not bow to this monster acting jury.

He raised his sword, his face turned red,
Running and shouting: 'You shall be the one who drops dead! '.
The two enemies clashed with an astounding force,
And our hero felt that he finally changed course...'
