Hey Great Eagle
Hey, great eagle, high up in my cedar tree,
I see you there—do you see me? With your regal snowy head and watchful eyes,
You circle slowly through the skies.
Above my backyard, proud and free,
Riding the wind above the sea. The deer step softly through the grass,
Pausing quietly as shadows pass.
The bears wander near the forest edge,
Following berries along the hedge.A cougar moves where the tall ferns sway,
Silent as dusk at the close of day.
Yet high above, beyond their trail,
You spread your mighty feathered sail. Guardian of mountain, river, and shore,
You've seen these wild lands long before.
The cedar cradles your lofty throne,
A kingdom of branches all your own.Hey, great eagle, high up in my cedar tree,
I see you there—do you see me?
Perhaps you do with your ancient gaze,
Watching my backyard through the days.
