Hidden Worries Poem by Alice Turner

Hidden Worries

In the confusion of my mind
so many things get lost -
they fall into a vastness, a space
to which there is no access.
Then suddenly, they flare up, huge
onto the cinema screen in my mind.
Where have they been up to now?
When they reach this level of size
They are uncontrollable, unstoppable.
The world trembles as a result of my forgetfulness.
It rocks on its axis, the whole of humankind falls,
trembling in my wake.
Yes, it's that powerful.
Then fades again, fades away to its hiding place.
But the damage has been done -
the wound is there, slightly healed over but a place of weakness
ready to open again at the smallest pressure
ready for the next lost or buried thought
to come crashing through.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Like many people I try to bury my worries but they can suddenly reappear and I feel my mistakes will have catastrophic effects.
