High Pride Poem by Shelley Williams

High Pride

Rating: 5.0

One sunny afternoon
I went out for a walk
Alone in my silence
I was not one to talk.

My eyes looked around
and I heard nature call.
I glanced just in time
and the sight made me fall.

He was up on his high horse
with a sharp gleam of pride.
He gestured to me
'Come along for the ride.'

I couldn't see for a moment,
when I looked at his face.
His ego was blinding
and I felt out of place.

He wanted my attention,
but, I turned to look away.
The clothes that he wore
spoke to me that day.

I stood with a blank stare,
nothing came to mind.
I needed to get away
leave this conceit behind.

He then went on his way
a real steady course.
I spoke with a shout,
'Don't fall off your horse! '

The words came to me
that day where I stood.
Way up on his high horse
that man is no good.

He thinks of himself,
that's all he can see.
Alone in his pride
is where he'll always be.
