Hill Of Understanding Poem by Allison Riches

Hill Of Understanding

The Hill of Understanding

I stand on the hill of understanding
And embrace the wind that doesn't forgive;
The rain that saturates my clothes, hair and skin
Yet feeds the ground so it may live.
I feel alive and free
The perishing cold that I have dared
Through pain and misery
Guilt followed by months of despair:
Thus venture and question what life has subjected me to;
Or has it always existed, from birth;
'Its nothing new'-
I'm at that point of questioning everything
Refusing to succumb to one's own cynicism;
I finally accept that I can only take personal criticism;
And there lies the answer – its quite simple in essence;
Until I can display my faults
I'll always be in defence.
