Hingalaj Temple
So revered by the Balochs, the Sindhis,
The Gujaratis, the Marwaris,
The local folks and by visitors from far
During the fair time in April,
From Balochistan and Sindh
Telling of Siva-Sati story
In a mythic context,
Homage to the Sati Devi
As Vishnu in order in order
To mitigate the sorrow and burden of Siva
Doing Tandava in remorse
Axed the body into 51 pieces
Of which the head portion fell it here
As the myth says,
Heresy speaks it
Into the mountains of Balochistan
People gather it
Seeking blessings in so revered faith
Held over the years,
Trekking the mountainous ways,
Coming on animal backs,
But now as for the bridge built over
People have an easy access to
In reaching the Mata Temple
And it appears to be pleasant
When the voices rent the air,
Hingalaj Maiyya ki jai.
Under the lurking shadow of the mountains
The Hingalaj river flowing,
How beautiful the scenery and the landscape,
How the mountainous track,
Rocks and stones, a litter of that all,
The ways crossing in between
And the pilgrims journeying,
Coming from far
For to bow the head before.
