Hippy Poem by Sarah Elizabeth Clark

Hippy

Rating: 3.0

Enlighten and embolden me,
freedom of the Earth’s breeze.
My heart is a bohemian leader
but my mind is conflicted,
confused by this ‘should’.

Would you take a poet’s chance?
Not from my middle class sheets.
It’s comfortable here, I repeat
and ‘they’ expect me to succeed.

The world I’ve loved isn’t real.
I’m trapped by everyone I have ever met
and those who have yet to reach me.

But for fear,
Would you stay here?

It was never the plan.
Then life is never the plan at all,
we simply plummet through it.

Only fate knows where to stop our fall.
Does she catch us, cradle us, and set us down?
Or slam the breaks so we topple from our seat?
We learn faster that way not to repeat our mistakes.
