If a man was to steal 50,000 dollars
Should he pay the penalty?
If the place he stole from was worth billions of dollars
and would not even notice it gone, pocket change,
Should he still pay the penalty?
If another man was to steal just two dollars,
should he be punished with the same penalty
as the other man?
No? ..Why not?
If a man was to mug a frail, elderly woman..
and take everything she had in the world..
should he be punished moreso
than the man who stole 50,000 dollars
from a company that would not even miss it?
Yes? ?
That frail old lady..
everything she had in the world was two dollars..

hi ms sharon, this is thought provoking. I happen to be part of the judiciary and where i came from we apply the law equally. as they say, dura lex, sed lex, it may be hard but that is the law. personally, i consider the circumstances of the case in imposing penalties for a specific crime as along it is still within the bounds of law. I always appreciate your writings, keep them coming. regards, eloida
