Homecoming Poem by Renu Beri

Homecoming

The sun slid from his heavenly throne
To sleep in the depths of the ocean.
The sky bid him a glorious farewell,
In shades of bright red and golden.
The ocean awaited him with open arms
Reflecting the exuberance of the sky.

The twittering birds glided homewards,
The tree tops strained themselves to look,
The leaves danced the dance of invitation,
The branches swayed themselves to rhythm
The nests hugged themselves and smiled
To welcome the birds who came to rest.

The fishermen in their wooden boats,
Lifted their heads and squinted their eyes.
Seeing the flying birds and setting sun,
They turned their boats and rowed fast,
For women and children waited for them,
With beaming faces and hopeful heart.

The sun, the birds and the fishermen
Have one common thing they all share.
Someone awaits them at home,
With loving heart and open arms.
Those who love get love in return,
Be it sun, bird or common man.
