I placed my faith where futures used to gleam,
And watched them fade like footprints in the rain;
The heart grows tired when every promised dream
Returns as echo, loss, and quiet pain.
For a long while, even light felt thin,
Each hour heavy with what could not be;
Yet deep within, where doubts had settled in,
A fragile hope still breathed, unnoticed, free.
It did not rise with trumpet or with flame,
But like a seed beneath the broken ground;
From shattered trust, new courage learned my name,
And taught my soul to stand where it was found.
So hope survives not by what once was true,
But by the strength to begin again—askew.
