How? Poem by William B. Deutscher

How?

In the sun-topped day
see your eyes locked up away.
In the star-shot night
see your head held high to rights.
Ignore me on a summer city street
noontime loss to the fast pace of defeat.
In the gold-gate greenery
run a deepening dream to the sea.
