How Far Away Is Heaven Poem by Dorothy Good

How Far Away Is Heaven

How Far Away is Heaven

Tear-stained faces at the window,
Clutching tightly a blanket frayed;
Troubled minds in restless slumber,
So lost, alone, afraid.

How far away is heaven?
Tell me again of that home,
Will Jesus' arms reach out to hold me?
Will He love me as His own?
Will the angels fix my broken wings?
Will they teach me to fly?
How far away is heaven?
Can I go there when I die?

Gently rock these little children,
Singing softly a lullabye;
You are holding a bit of heaven,
While in your arms they cry.

How far away is heaven?
Tell me again of that home,
Will Jesus' arms reach out to hold me?
Will He love me as His own?
Will the angels fix my broken wings?
Will they teach me to fly?
How far away is heaven?
Can I go there when I die?

Angels watch o'er these little darlings,
Tenderly through the long night hours;
Brush the tears from their little pillow,
While heaven lights the stars.

How far away is heaven?
Tell me again of that home,
Will Jesus' arms reach out to hold me?
Will He love me as His own?
Will the angels fix my broken wings?
Will they teach me to fly?
How far away is heaven?
Can I go there when I die?
