How Much Is God Worth? Poem by Michael P. Johnson

How Much Is God Worth?

Do you seek the way to life above?
Do you seek to flee the grave?
Would you leave behind all you love?
Your wicked soul to save

Would you come to God with all your heart?
Would you serve in truth His Son?
Would of your best The Lord impart?
And see your battles won?

Do you save for God some time and space?
Do you share your purse in love?
Is in your heart reserved a place?
To seek God’s face above

Do you share God your deepest thought?
Do you share your secret fears?
Do you share the world the true report?
Do you share her children’s tears?

Would you share neighbours time and purse?
As you share your Christian view?
Would you bless those your name would curse?
And be pleased in what you do?

Is the will of God upon your mind?
Do you seek to bear good fruit?
Or do you walk as though you’re blind?
And round your neighbours mute?

And is the lamb you offer lame?
The gold you’ll give unclean?
Is putrid fruit festooned in shame
Worthy of Jesus’ queen?

Just ask yourself could this be you?
Is this your heart’s desire?
Will Christ embrace your present view?
Or will it end in fire?
