Hurt Poem by Adam Rubenstein

It was years ago when this began,
Now it’s all sad, cause you got scared and ran.
It was good La Cosa Nostra, (this thing of ours)
But it’s gone cause you’re a coward.
I would have given you all,
YOU – My rose – My one and only flower.
But I couldn’t save us, I didn’t have the power.

You say I didn’t express emotion,
Maybe nine was not the right potion.
I told you I loved you, and that I’d always be there,
You said yeah, like you had no care.
I quoted Frankie, Ole Blue Eyes, The One
And now my moment of silence has begun ____________!

Maybe it wasn’t meant to be,
But you never opened your eyes to see.
That when I was with you; my knees were weak,
But go ahead, - You’ve got your love, and I’ve had my time to speak.
