Hurt Poem by William Rectory

Hurt

I knew how to hurt,
It has been the venom of mine.
Growing as malice inside me,
A beast grows, blurs the humane line.

I have hurt many, made them hate.
Hatred spew like black venom on my face,
Yet I never felt ashamed, nor sentient.
Lost their hope in goodness, lost their grace.

Life has been in a dark patch, stained.
Lighthouses of distant cry a shuddering light.
I go to the nearest refuge, scared.
Cause I love the descent of a cold, unspeakable night.

The night where I have hurt you,
Where my eyes could never meet you in shame.
The night where I lost your appetite for life.
The night you wished you never had known my name.

But I love you, and let love pain.
Empty streets of torn plants and broken street.
Let the night wail in grey adjective hush.
Hate thrives in heart of cuts, let us never meet.

I have hurt you, my dear.
And you can never forgive.
Moments of smiles, snuggles and coffee.
A dry cold heart collapses and I grieve.
