I Am Corruption Poem by tari n oyintarila

I Am Corruption

I am corruption
And am so, so invisible,
Yet very visible, am everywhere.
I can penetrate through steels and blocks,
Chains and locks, race and laws,
High and low, borders and home,
Democracy and the military both i own.

I am corruption
So proud, arrogant, powerful and elegant,
No, no, no, no! You just can't catch me.
Am as slippery like a tiny fish in the water,
Like an oily ball in a small palm,
You need bigger hands to try and catch me,
Yet you wouldn't; or could barely do.

I am corruption
The great, great, grandfather of bribery,
And am a master giver, a great teaser,
No! You just can't resist or refuse my offer,
Am a perfect player, a skillful game changer,
I can turn the king a beggar, the queen my daughter,
The servant a leader, the princess his lover.

I am corruption
Yes, it takes intelligence to be me,
It takes tricks, greed and lies to be me,
It takes smartness and enough selfishness to be me,
It's my ability to convert yours and theirs
To be mine, that makes me to be me
I gladly oppress, suppress and take from the poor.

I am corruption
And it cost me almost nothing,
To make a saint a thief, the thief a saint,
Am a good manipulator, i change figures at will,
I can easily reverse or influence decisions and testimonies,
I make the wise foolish, and the foolish the wise.
Making yes as no!
