I Am The Pilot Of My Fate Poem by Jim Boone

I Am The Pilot Of My Fate

'Don't let it be forgot, that once a spot, for
happily ever-aftering that's known as Camellot.'

Across the horizon of a lifescape
where nobody gets out alive
nor no Soul gets marooned

Not a Kennedy or any Royalty
not a John or Jane Doe
nor you or I

Star-crossed, lost or grounded
just passing through
an example
to all time-travelers

Riding the rails of mystique
celebrity, beloved of family
or friends, or going it alone

Many youthful departures
emphasize the importance
of approaching each day
for what we can learn
and what we can teach

Living each moment to the max
accentuating the positive
not contributing to the negative

Knowing that faith will sustain
grief will heal
love will lift
and set us free.

1996

'You must not subordinate your lives to the
expectations of others, but to your own self
be true.' JFK
