I Beg You - Let Go Poem by Rachel Slimm

I Beg You - Let Go

Rating: 5.0

You furrow your brow
and clench up your teeth
to tame the old anger
that rages beneath,

yet it will not obey
despite how you try,
your tongue is in motion
the arrows they fly! !

I hear all your words,
I feel all your pain,
and I see how YOU feel it
all over again.

Please tell me one thing:
Why you want to hold on
to pains caused in times
that have long since been gone?

You life has moved forward
with choices you've made,
you claim not to care
of the past - now erased,

yet I see inside you,
in the deepest ravine,
you harbour a fondness
for what could have been.

I don't think that hate
is your emotion of choice,
or that wounds are intended
when truth has your voice,

I think that the past
has damaged your soul,
and a fear for the future
has taken control.

I wish you could see
what I see in you;
that the jewels in your heart
are not quite so few,

that you are not bad
but neither are we,
just for now our perfection
is not meant to be,

then you would not need
the approval of ALL,
and perceived wounds of past
would grow ever so small,

the hurt that you nurse
would slowly release,
then the gift to yourself
- an uncompared peace.
