I Care Poem by Nur Meiyati

I Care

He is not native of the country
Was once a consultant in the bureaucracy
High position
He fought against corruption
That's not exclusive to that department, really
It has become a common knowledge
Fund, the state budgeting are a luxurious feast for almost anyone inside the system
In almost every level
He would not cooperate with them
He was not liked, surely
They tried anything to make him out
So they would not be disturbed

Until now when he is out of the system
He still watches every step of the government
Criticizes it boldly, daringly, relentlessly
Writing about the ongoing corruption problems
Why are you so crazy fighting against corruption?
It has been practiced for ages
In almost any levels and any institutions
The people sitting in the bureaucracy change many times
The parties who lead the elections also often change
Ranging from those who claim as religious parties to secular
But corruption never decreases
Why do you care
The authority, the native people themselves do not care

I care
Because not many care
I care about the people
Who are not aware of the danger of corruption
I know my ambition is too big
But I hope I can spur discussion and stimulate people to think about the issues
Position, money and fame are things in the list that I care less
He realizes well
No matter how much a foreigner's love for the country
No matter how long he has been living in the country
He will always be considered as an alien
More, for people who are used to be indoctrinated
That criticizing shows the lack of respect for the country
Critics from foreigners even are taken as a contempt
Not many realize
His endless battle through his voice for corruption
His effort and money that poured into a bottomless pit
Reflect his deep love for the country and the people
Actually, much deeper than that of the authorities themselves
