I Do Not Have Strings On Me Poem by Benjamin Davis

I Do Not Have Strings On Me

I Do Not Have Strings On Me
You've ordered me around often over the years
but now its time that I set you straight
I have put this talk off for quite a while now
and I'm fed up and can no longer wait.
I've been thinking a lot about how bossy you are
and about all the ordering you've done
I think you should know that even though you have kids
I am definitely not one.
You've snapped at people and given orders so much
that I cringe whenever I hear your voice
I have tried to avoid being this blunt with you
but you see, you leave me no choice.
You treat me like your personal slave
you treat everyone else the same way
I feel that its time that you were told to slow down
for you're going to snap at the wrong person one day.
Who died and left you the authority
to order people around like you do?
I have no strings on me and I'm not a puppet
so I wont move when you want me to.
Don't get me wrong I'm still your friend
If you've a problem I'll help you get through it
but it wont be in response to you ordering me
I help out because I want to do it.
So stop thinking that you can boss me around
open your eyes look closely and see
that I can move my limbs without orders from you
because I do not have strings on me.
