I Find No Peace Poem by David Johnson

I Find No Peace

I find no peace yet have no strength to fight.
I fear yet hope. I burn yet I am ice.
I'm laid low in the earth yet high in flight,
Grasp nothing yet hold all within my vice.
Love neither locks me up nor lets me go,
And neither slacks my chains nor binds me tight,
Nor sets me free, nor deals the final blow,
Nor wants me living nor puts out my light.
Eyeless I see. I howl without a tongue.
I beg to live yet long to end my strife.
I loathe myself yet know my love is true.
Feeding on pain I weep and laugh. I'm stung
And feel no zest for either death or life.
Lady, such is my state - because of you.
