I Hail From Akokwa, Hail Akokwa! Poem by Onwuasoanya FCC Jones

I Hail From Akokwa, Hail Akokwa!

Ohaigiri is another alias by which we are known,
Ogwurumbaike;
A clan of great warriors and pace-setting achievers.
Did you hear of John Munonye?
He hailed from Akokwa,
A pioneer in the pen profession,
Did you hear of Elechukwu Njaka?
He hailed from Akokwa,
An educationist, a Professor, an administrator who conquered America,
You certainly know of Ezekiel Izuogu;
That Akokwa engineer who built Africa's first car; Z-600.
Akokwa nwere mmadu,
every hamlet in Akokwa has a hero who is known beyond the River Niger, beyond the Atlantic Ocean.
In trade, we lead, we conquer;
Onitsha would not have had a name,
In war, we triumph,
In sports, we win,
In trade, we prosper,
In education, we are ahead,
In all, God is from Akokwa.
Our Obi, a beautiful soul,
The custodian of our tradition,
A first class traditional ruler, without dents;
Loved, respected and adored by all.
Ndi Akokwa, good people, beautiful souls.
I hail from Akokwa, hail Akokwa!
