I Have No Time For This Poem by Raymond Farrell

I Have No Time For This

We are unable to go you and I
Fully awake to the reality
Of those who live and die
We dare not fritter our time away
Somewhere between the small talk
And passion of the day.

I too have considered conforming
Appearing to follow one
Of those messiahs bent on reforming
Our decrepit inept culture
But too often I've seen today's saint
Become tomorrow's vulture.

Now certainly isn't the time
To worry about technique
Of meter, rhythm, rhyme
Nor am I leading up to a declaration
Of a political nature, nothing profound
But the world faces extermination.

I am not on any side
That's just half of it
I also lack national pride
And will not be found defending
The monied interests of those
I find increasingly offending.

I am neither left nor right
Historically the kingdoms of men
Have been ruled with little foresight
Power has corrupted time and again
Politics has become the haven
For the lowest of men.

I am not interested in a name
Small recognition in a vast universe
Is a sleazy bit of fame
Passed off as life-crowning bliss
I have no time for this.
