I Have Not Served You As I Should Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Have Not Served You As I Should

I HAVE NOT SERVED YOU AS I SHOULD

I have not served You as I should
I and those I care for have been at the center
Not serving You
First and above all
The excuse that You do not need me
Is not acceptable
For those who make Your Call and Your Demand
Your Torah
The center of all-

I am not religious enough
A very imperfect hit-and- miss servant
A worshipper of myself
In this, a sinner-

I doubt this one poem of repentance
Can make up for years of my being
‘Mr. I' -and my human world
The center of my concern.
