I Just Don'T Get It Poem by Elannia Lake

I Just Don'T Get It

I asked what you believe
You replied “holy, holy, holy, is he”
But what does that mean?
I mean, obviously, it means something to you
But what does it mean to me?
Nothing.
You see, I speak modern English
Not old-style Christianese
So please
Stop with the, thou, thy, and thee
Salvation, sanctification, justification
Does it really, take so many complex words
To tell me someone died?
And why?
Why did this perfect
Man you all worship
Die for a broken world?
That's scratched, dented, discolored, and tainted
Tell me this,
And please, I’m begging you to stop
Talking to me in that old-school English
That language that makes me feel stupid
Because I just don’t get it
But I want to
But I cant
You all seem so perfect
And I must be worthless
In comparison
Is that, what you’re trying so hard to tell me
Because honestly
I don’t understand

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem for a slam poetry night at church. I wanted to display my previous feelings and the feelings of those who don't know the Bible.
