I Know You Poem by Katherine H. Belle

I Know You

I know you

I know the small curve of your smile
That lingers there
Just a moment longer than it should.
Playfully dancing between the words
Trapped just beyond your tongue and teeth.

I know the look you get in your eyes
When something strikes you funny.
It is a mixture of pure joy
Sprinkled with the smallest pinch of sadness
As if you can't ever let go of that long departing thought

I know the way your hands
Always need something to do.
As if to protest in their current state of frozen un-use.
Trembling with the fear of a potential
Statue-like permanence.

I know your laugh.
The way it rings through the very fabric of my existence.
And reverberates in the chests of those who would have it.
Leaving a sorrow filled, and wanting void
Whence it should sound silent.

And though I may not know your name,
Nor have I seen your face
I know that you are out there.
And I can only hope that you have found love
If not just for this moment.
To fill the space within your heart
That I hope you have saved for me.
