I Lay Down Poem by Patrick O'Reilly

I Lay Down

I lay down
And I swear I sleep for a thousand years
The buildings crumble around me
The radiators rust
The cities turn to ash
Empires rise, empires fall
My breath stales and churns in my chest
And the green starts to grow over me in tangles
Sometimes that is the sleep I want.
