I Love You The Way You Are Poem by meni kabir

I Love You The Way You Are

It will not matter that you are neither here nor there I love you the way you are shapeless and absent and as old as the hands of time.

Yet i do not love you so as to possess you because to love you in this way then will be to place you and to place you is the greatest way of misplacing you,

so I will love you like the man who loves a woman only in his dreams or like blossom loves the teary face of spring, and I don't care if they say that ours is a love of bitter tastes and serpentine ways.

That they say we do not know how to correctly define beauty is no matter, for beauty is simply as beautiful is where ugliness is not there to compare beauty with the measure of the beauty in beauty, that in your absence is where I truly feel your presence is what they have failed to know.

So It will be of no use if they frown at your trembling lips or even laugh at your lost tongue, they do not know that ours was the language of the heart before I knew I was waiting for you and you for me how then can they know that your silence resounds with the softness of dawn or that a daughter of the skies loves like no other woman?

Therefore without thinking I will simply love you the way that you simply Loved me.
That we have met before, I know, in another sunset, along other avenues forgotten and lost, as we have loved before in another silence in another existence between history and receded centuries and hovered lazily over musty odors and rustic ruins where life constantly met its death

and even now between the same slenderness of surging rivers among the same whispering forests and melodies and silences and nothing memories still happen

so I will go on and wring another of your briny name from my sorrows and write it across my heart with crossed strands of amber and alabaster.
