I'm Sorry Poem by Lely Atempa

I'm Sorry

I'm sorry for not completing My work.
My dreams, My Job, My goals.

I'm sorry for not meeting your Expectations.
My life and My version of the world are gone.

I let you down and I'm very sorry about that
I feel very ashamed, that I didn't give it my best shot.

I didn't set a good example for the kids in younger grades
I get it, you're disappointed, at the upper grade levels.

You want More achievement, and goals set.
And more kids going to college and not dropping out of high school.

Wait...I'm not sorry at all, What has the school system done for Us?

Sure, you give Us information that We need, But what are you really doing?

All I see is a classroom full of zombie like humans,
Robots even. They're just there Mindless people answer questions.
All I ever hear is what grade a student got on a test or how great they are.

Every day I see Kids competing on who's better or smarter.
I'm sorry to the kids who have to go through this.

I'm sorry that school is a competition, and you didn't know.
I'm sorry for the school system.

But most of all I'm sorry for all the friends you lost over a grade.

You are a bird, and like a bird you're supposed to be free, but instead you are trapped, like a prisoner.

I'm sorry for common core
Ixl

Standardized testing
And other tests you will have to take.

These test tell you your intelligence,
And if it's low

You believe that you're dumb
Stupid even.

I'm so sorry, that most of your dreams are crushed.
Your hopes crushed.

Actually I'm not sorry.

I'm not sorry for the way you learn.

If you hate the system so much
Then say something about it

It's you versus them

So get used to it.

I'm Sorry

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
If people hate the school system I say that they should do something about it instead of standing there and doing nothing other than that nothing is going to change if no one stands up for the student who feel helpless.
