I Never Say Forever Poem by John Yaws

I Never Say Forever

I'll never say forever-
I'm learning from the past...
'Forever, dear'; and, 'always',
Just never seem to last.

Love is so elusive-
Yet passion's all around.
I'll never say, 'Forever'-
It has a phony sound.

So often I have listened-
To the siren song.
Of everlasting happiness,
I wonder what went wrong?

'I'll always love you, baby'.
Too soon turned into hate,
I learned to fear 'forever',
But learned it far too late.

Some say that I'm a cynic.
Some merely call me fool.
I guess that I'll admit it,
Too oft emotions rule...

My swan song is a sad one-
Dirge of a poor lost fool,
I never say forever,
The echo is too cruel.
