I now know
Why the caged bird dies.
Not that she wanted to fly
Among others her kind,
In the big blue sky.
Nor she missed
Stretching her wings
Into leaps of free flights.
No! She did not miss
Those lovely meadows
Or those foods of surprise.
She just wanted to sing
And someone to understand
The satire of her hearts desire.
She sang to those who passed,
Few stopped
In awe of her golden attire.
Her golden wings
With red frills
Gold studded with rubies and sapphire!
But lo!
No one paid heed to her song.
Unable to reach a soul,
Her songs died
And in her golden beak
Her tongue got tied.
Day after day,
In her golden cage
The golden bird cried.
Her beauty got accolades
But her soul was ignored.
Unheard,
The caged bird died.
I now know
Why the caged bird dies.
