I Played With Your Heart Poem by Edmund Calleja

I Played With Your Heart

(The heart is the only broken
instrument that works. T.E. Kalem)

I have no magic spells to cast
To help me win your heart again,
All I have are gifted verses
To soothe your sadness and your pain.

I played with your fragile heart
Until it cracked and almost shattered,
I should have known that our love
Was all that really mattered.

For your love and your forgiveness
I’ll now do just anything,
And like minstrels and troubadours
Beneath your window I will sing.

As I pine for all we have shared
Now I know what has gone missing,
Now I long for starry twilights
And the fervour of your kissing.

Every time I close my eyes
I just see your lovely face,
I have loved and loved again
But none will ever take your place.

I still feel you here beside me
With the magic of your smile,
And all other lover’s ramblings
Should have never been worthwhile.

Let me lay a bridge before you
Full of music and of song,
Let its notes be stepping stones
To lead me back where I belong.
