I Saw My Friend Today Poem by Michelle Rainey

I saw my friend today
It had been quite sometime
I pulled her out from her box
I dug her from the lilies
I held her up
I held her tight
But when I let go
She fell
I reached out my hand
Yet she didn’t grab it
I stared her in the eyes
Yet she didn’t she didn’t stare back
I smiled and laughed
Ok joke is over
No response
No joke
Her hand still lay at her side
Her eyes remain unopened
No giggle left her mouth
No smile appeared upon her face
I stood there and watched her
But nothing every happened
Tears gushed out my eyes
As I fell to the ground
I grabbed her shoulders
And shook her with all my might
Get up I screamed
She didn’t get up
I lay my head atop her body
Soaking her with my tears
But this time was different
Because this time her arm was not around my shoulder
Comforting me and holding me close
No this arm lay still on the ground
I whispered quietly close to her ear
I hope that in heaven these words she could hear
I loved you
I love you
I will always love you
And though my heard may remain shattered
In my heart you shall stay
Forever and ever
My comforter
My friend
