I See Fire Poem by Adisa Oludare Enitan

I See Fire

Can you see what I'm seeing?
fire caused by our inactions
flames burning the tree of truth
hollowing soils of innocent men
desolation falling upon our rusty caps
dragging our tired legs backwards

I will cover my eyes for I have seen enough
of this gruesome massacre
and free fall of my people
Into the pool of decadence

Hear this my brothers
I will not shiver
neither will you relent
raise your glasses of courage
For the last time

I can feel the heat upon my skin
It will soon be unbearable
And when the dark returns
In solidarity
We all die together
